Sergey Pavlovich Korolyov foi o génio por detrás do programa espacial Soviético. Preso durante seis anos nos Gulag e mais tarde aclamado como herói Soviético por feitos como o lançamento do Sputnik e por meter o primeiro homem a orbitar a Terra, Yuri Gagarin, o seu legado perdura ainda hoje.
Os foguetes R7 e Soyuz, de seu desenho, na década de 60, são ainda usados actualmente.
